Coonoor

We decided to extend our stay in Ooty so that we could spend a day in the nearby hillstation of Coonoor. To get to Coonoor, we took the toy train. Tourists use the route as a great way to see the hilly countryside, whilst locals use it to get from A to B. The train takes around an hour and passes through some pretty scenery.

Once in Coonoor we negotiated a tuktuk for the day to take us around the sites. We’re taken to tea plantations and various viewpoints.

Towards the end of the day an unidentified older chap jumps into the tuktuk. This is a common occurrence in India; favours for random people. Anyway, mentioning this because said chap had the most ear hair we’ve ever seen. Nasty.

We’re told by various people that buses leave every 5 minutes from Coonoor back to Ooty. This is a lie as we have to wait 1 hour. Once the bus finally arrives, the crush to get on was immense (imagine the buses in London when there’s a tube strike X 10). Luckily a man that we’d been chatting to on the road got on and then saved us a seat. Not sure how we’d get on without these random acts of kindness. However, I still basically had the conductor/two school boys sitting on my lap for an hour.
