We arrived at Bangaluru airport a couple of hours early for 11AM flight Hyderabad. Once we arrive, we’re told that the flight is delayed until 4.30PM. We have a ‘Airline’ style argument with the Jet Airways supervisor with the hope of getting a free lunch. She explains that the flight is delayed because of a scheduled closed runway due to a nearby airshow. She advises that we should write a letter to the government of India if we want to take it further. We get some food coupons - job done.
On the bus from Hyderabad airport into town we get talking to a local businessman who sorts us out with a reliable taxi for a tour of the city the next day. Another random encounter which proved very handy.
Hyderabad is mental (in a good way); it takes a while to acclimatise. The traffic situation is even crazier than normal; this isn’t a place that you can get around on foot! The majority of Hyderabad residents are Muslim. There’s a lot to see! Islamic style palaces, tombs, and forts etc.
Thanks to our friend on the bus, we have a taxi at our disposal for the first day. First stop, the Charminar. This is Hyderabad’s principal monument.
The Charminar is situated close to the Laad Bazaar. We have a look around.
Hyderabad is known as the ‘city of pearls’. The Bazaar has its fair share of pearl shops which Shejal had a good look around.
Next we head to the Chowmahalla Palace. The heredity rulers of Hyderabad (the Nizam) built this place in the 1700s. It’s the best kept palace we’ve visited so far.
The afternoon is spent at the Qutb Shahi Tombs. Plenty of good photo opportunities!
We round off an interesting (but hectic) day at the Golconda Fort.
